LB had picture day at preschool today, and OH MY GOD, I HAVE A CHILD OLD ENOUGH TO HAVE PICTURE DAY! You can totally tell that DB and I were both children whose parents didn't give a shit about picture day and therefore always ended up with awful school pictures, because we spent 40 minutes on Monday night, 2 days before Picture Day, trying on different outfits for LB to wear. And then this morning, Picture Day, we actually ironed her clothes.
How about you guys? Did your parents give a crap about picture day? I always looked like shit. At best, I would pick out my own frilly dress, but inevitably it would be wrinkled, and I would wear sneakers with it. And I would pick out my own photo package, the cheapest one with the most wallet sized photos so my friends could have them. The package always came with these 8x10s that my parents never asked about, so I would throw them away.
So yeah, Picture Day is a big deal at my house.
Speaking of preschool, we enrolled LB in a new preschool last month, after much searching, and we are so far extremely satisfied and pleased with the new school. LB loves it. After the very first day, she told us she had made a new friend, and "I love her." Love! After one day! The girl's name is Tatum, but LB calls her "Potatum." I've asked around at the school, and apparently no one else calls her Potatum, so now I'm anxious that Tatum thinks LB is making fun of her.
You see? This is the kind of neurotic parent I am, agonizing over Picture Day and nicknames.
Breaking news: I've joined NaBloPoMo and will be blogging every single day for the month of November. So I may post less frequently for the next week, but there should be more than enough of me to go around come November.

"National Blog Posting Month is the epicenter of daily blogging! People who want to set the habit of blogging by doing it every day for a month, including weekends, can come here for moral support, inspiration, and the camaraderie that only marathon blogging can provide."
Do you feel you're not getting enough support from us, your faithful readers? You need to seek "moral support and inspiration" from strangers?
I support you, L! And I can inspire you, too! How's this for inspiration - it's snowing in MN. Makes you want to move here, doesn't it? You know you want to.
I don't feel that way at all! It's purely selfish and commercial.
1. I kind of want to see if I can do it.
2. They give away prizes in the month of November, so why not do it in November?
I imagine there will be some pretty boring entries, but it might be fun too.
Prizes are involved?? I might have to sign up myself! Do you actually have to blog every day to qualify for the prizes?
Andie- Well, you don't automatically get a prize, but you get entered into a drawing for prizes. Yes, you have to blog every single day of November.
Seamus' good friend in kindergarten was "Colin". After talking about this kid for two weeks, Anne finally met him.
Anne: "nice to meet you, "Colin""
"Colin": "Um...my name's Owen, I just let Seamus call me "Colin""
-awkward pause-
That evening, we had the discussion - if this was really going to be Seamus' close friend, he should probably call him by his real name. If not, maybe choose a cooler nickname, like "thunder" or "cobra". What kind of nickname is Colin?
BTW - I'm actually the "epicenter of daily blogging" - don't believe everything you read on the interwebs.
Oh James. That is the funniest thing I've heard all month. Are they still friends? And doesn't Connor call MJ "Trey"? Doughertys have strange nicknames.
Yep - be warned - once you friend a Dougherty - it's very difficult to wiggle out.
We're tenacious. Like little sharp toothed wolverines.
Okay, I am a bit of a lurker here because your posts always make me laugh but this one stressed me out! I got talked into taking all my daughter's pre-school class photos and I am by no means a pro. Most are turning out but some are down right scary and I feel like I am going to get parent hate mail after the proofs go out :o
And my parents never cared about photo day either... I'm with you... I chose my own fancy dress and either have bad hair or if it looks good a friend's Mom probably took pity on me :)
Hi Dawn. :) I'd love to see these photos! I'm sure they're great. Here's the deal- most parents think their kids are cute, so even the goofiest pictures are fawned over.
I remember having actual friends who would fix my hair. Little kids took more pity on me than my parents did! Pathetic.
